Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was one of the leading figures in the anti-colonial movement in India. Spearheading the non-cooperation movement and Civil Disobedience movement gave him an almost unparalleled stature, and this helped in mobilising anti-colonial forces eventually leading to independence.
Legacy
Ellen Wilkinson, a British MP from the House of Commons stated - "Gandhi was the best policeman that the Britishers had in India."
